The Editor, Re: "Population overload is depleting Mother Earth," Letters, July 11. "Read before you write, Lake," Letters, July 13.

Science isn't always sexy. "God particles" aside, it doesn't often generate headlines; scientists can toil for years on projects that won't yield immediate results. But the work they do is crucial. Science lets us know what's happening in our world.

The Editor: Re: "Sharks finless, council spineless," Letters, July 18. I am concerned the shark fin debate will divide our community along racial and cultural lines.

It was inspirational to read the "What's it mean to be Canadian?" edition of the Richmond News.

The Editor, Monday, July 16, 6.15 p.m.: The sun is shining as the wife and I (with three-year-old in tow) meander down to Steveston for the gruelling (at least in my book) 15-minute walk to the village.

Does a government that is clearly unpopular with a majority of its constituents have the moral authority to sign a 10-year contract just as its mandate is about to expire? That's a question worth asking in regards to the B.C.

The Editor, Re: "Berry dumping mystifies rival," News, July 13. Kudos to Ravinder Gill of Birak Berry farms for "berry dumping" in protest rather than sit complacent and watch the local strawberry farms get eaten up by cheaper markets.

The Editor, Re: "RCMP net misses lobster fraudster," News, July 13. Don't know whether to laugh or cry when I read how the RCMP bungled the case against a person using a stolen credit card to buy lobsters from Nova Scotia.

The Editor, Re: "A smile goes a long way," Letters, July 13. I would like to congratulate Jo Anne Gray on her very timely and articulate letter regarding the unfriendliness we are currently encountering in our local community.

The Editor, Re: "Shark fin ban considered by city," News, July 11. I am very disappointed in Richmond city council's reaction to Mr. Marr's presentation.
