The NDP’s Jaeden Dela Torre and Conservative Alice Wong would be the members of Parliament representing Ottawa if Richmond students had their way.

Jaeden Dela Torre is only 18 years old, but he was still able to capture 6,167 votes in Steveston-Richmond East as the NDP candidate in Monday’s federal election, coming in third overall.

Conservative MP Alice Wong cruised comfortably to her fourth consecutive win in the riding of Richmond Centre Monday night. Wong garnered 48.9 percent of the vote, beating out her closest contender, Liberal Steven Kou, who finished with 28.4 percent.

Results are starting to come in from polls across Richmond’s two ridings. Thirty-three of Richmond Centre’s 188 polls have been counted, with Conservative candidate Alice Wong currently in the lead with 49.6 per cent of the vote.

After voters mark the big X on their ballot and drop it into a ballot box, it can take a few hours until the election results are announced. In rare cases, when the vote is very close, it can take a couple days to tally the votes.
