From the air, Richmond's farm fields appear covered with orange polka-dots during this season.

In the not too distant past, dreadlocked advocates speaking out in favour of marijuana legalization tended to show up on the steps of the Vancouver Art Gallery, poised to light up their joints at exactly 4: 20. How times have changed.

The Editor, Several weeks ago, a barn owl was found sitting in our large garbage bin in the back. We called OWL and one of the volunteers from the Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society immediately came out and took the owl to their facility.

We all need a little inspiration at different points in our lives - to lift us up from routine, help us meet life's challenges and push us towards our potential.

After waking, it took me a minute or two to feel certain I would be safe. My bedroom was dark, but I was fairly certain that the things I'd just seen - grey-faced demon things, dead-eyed and with joints that moved like creaking wood - were not real.

The Editor, I can only shake my head in dismay regarding city hall's insistence on paving over our beloved lands, while it neglects its responsibility to keep the already-paved roads safe.

The Editor, Re: "Wong stands by decision to eat shark fin," News, Oct. 17. The cruel slaughter of sharks for their fins goes on, a fact which should leave all Canadians with queazy stomachs, not eating soup.

It takes a lot of practise to be good at anything in life.
