Letters: Richmond byelection a waste of taxes

A Richmond News reader says they think the byelection was a waste of taxes.

Dear Editor,

I share the sentiments of another letter writer who said we should incorporate previous election results to fill a vacant council seat to avoid an expensive ($700,000+) byelection.

It cost city taxpayers $53.83 for each of the 13,002 voters to accommodate a career change by a sitting councillor on Saturday.

I hope Mayor Malcolm Brodie and councillors will undertake changes preventing future repeat costs by denying a non-medical exit from council service, prior to the next civic election.
