The Editor, On Aug. 16, we spotted a pet carrier that had been thrown into the bush just off of Shell Road. We were horrified to find it contained a white Persian cat with big yellow eyes, starving, dehydrated, and suffocating in its own waste.

I'm glad I'll be celebrating my birthday in Rome, the Eternal City. In a city over 2,500 years old, I'm sure to feel young. I'll also regain some perspective. We can get so caught up with the seriousness of our lives that we can miss the big picture.
