Vancouver International Airport is expecting its busiest Easter long weekend in two years.

YVR anticipates seeing an average of 46,000 passengers a day through the upcoming long weekend, a staggering increase from the 2,000 people per day seen at this time last year, said Robyn McVicker, the vice-president of Passenger Journey at YVR.

The Richmond News earlier reported that B.C.’s largest airport welcomed about 37,000 passengers a day during this year’s spring break. It has also seen an uptick in international flights leaving Vancouver since March.

Although travel rules have been loosened, McVicker noted that masks are still required in the terminal and on all flights. In addition, proof of vaccination is still required for domestic and international travel.

Meanwhile, YVR launched its Guest Experience Program this week to welcome the rising number of passengers, said McVicker, noting that more than 80 team members have been hired to keep the program running.

The new program aims to create an automatic, efficient, low-touch experience for all passengers through the airport’s terminals.

There are still another 100 jobs available, so people interested in working at the airport are welcome to visit YVR’s website.
