Richmond residents enthusiastically joined together for the special B.C. Day long weekend event at the four-acre London Heritage Farm.
The overriding theme was the unity that brings together a wide range of cultures in Canada.
It was an excellent occasion with great organization by Jackie Lee and many helpful volunteers.
A community picnic was provided as well, including pizza, fried chicken, candy floss, popsicles and bottled water.
Hundreds of people attended and there were lineups waiting to enter.
A multitude of local non-profit organizations that help to support and nourish our community shared their expertise and services.
In one example, Vancouver East Leo Club reported that it raised close to $1,000 for the Richmond Hospital Foundation today, during the 4 hour event.
One interesting charitable group has a sequel coming up on Sept.14.
The Guru Nanak has organized a Bike-a-thon and Walk-a-thon for New Westminster-Richmond. Their watchwords are Love All Feed All. Proceeds from this event will help to feed those in need.
Many community partners and volunteers assisted in making the event a success, including the Arthritis Society Canada, D.A.R.E. BC, Lions International 19L-A7, Responsible Drug Learning Association, Rotary Club of Richmond Lulu Island, Richmond Hospital Foundation, Save the Children Canada, South Fraser Search and Rescue and the Community Mental Wellness Association Canada.
The free, family-friendly picnic took place at London Heritage Farm, 6511 Dyke Rd., on Saturday, Aug. 2 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
