Umbrellas flipping inside out, trees falling down, and loose objects being tossed about – these are all possibilities today in Richmond as yet another wind warning has been issued.

This time around, Environment Canada says “this will be a significant wind storm likely causing widespread damage.”

Winds have already grown over the morning to 50 to 80 kilometres per hour across the south coast and are expected to rise to 70 to 90 kilometres per hour later in the morning. By the afternoon, stronger gusts could be over 100 kilometres per hour.

These gusts are stronger than were expected during the wind warning issued earlier this week.

As a result of the wind warning, multiple ferry sailings have already been cancelled. See a full list here.

The City of Richmond reminds residents to report any downed trees on public streets, parks and sidewalks to the city’s 24 hour dispatch line at 604-270-8721.

Power outages can be reported to BC Hydro at 1-800-224-9376.

Downed power lines should be reported by calling 911.
