Richmond RCMP are investigating after an 87-year-old pedestrian was struck and seriously injured by a car on Saturday afternoon in Richmond City Centre.
A northbound SUV allegedly struck the woman on No. 3 Road at Granville Avenue around 3:45 p.m. on Saturday, July 5.
She was taken to hospital with what police are describing as “serious, life-threatening injuries.”
The SUV eventually hit a lamp post just north of the intersection.
Four ambulances responded to the crash and they treated three people. All three were taken to hospital, two in stable condition and one in serious condition, according to BCEHS spokesperson Bowen Osoko.
No. 3 Road between Granville Avenue and Park Road was closed for several hours after the crash. A Honda SUV was seen with its front end badly damaged.
The driver stayed on scene and cooperated with the investigation, but causal factors haven’t been determined, BC RCMP said in a news release.
“The Criminal Collision Investigation Team has taken conduct of the file and will seek to determine both the cause of the crash as well as whether criminality was a factor,” said Staff Sgt. Kris Clark of the BC RCMP.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has dash-cam video of the incident is asked to contact the Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212 and quote file number 2025-21350.
No. 3 Road by Richmond City Hall has been closed for several hours on Saturday afternoon after an SUV appeared to have crashed into a pole.
