A car has once again crashed into a currency exchange store at a Richmond mall.

A photo submitted by Anthony Lee shows a dark hatchback vehicle parked on the sidewalk with its hood up, in front of ChengFeng Currency Exchange at Yaohan Centre. The store's glass wall was completely shattered.

Richmond RCMP said they responded to a single-vehicle incident at the mall at 3700 No. 3 Rd. on July 3, where a car hit a business around 6 p.m.

Police said the investigation is ongoing, but speed and impairment do not appear to be factors.

An ambulance with primary care paramedics also responded to the scene, where one patient was assessed but did not need to go to the hospital, said paramedic public information officer Brian Twaites.

This is the second time ChengFeng Currency Exchange has had a vehicle drive into its store, with a similar incident happening in April 2024.

Walrine Wong, spokesperson for Yaohan Centre, told the Richmond News the mall's council is taking the incident very seriously.

"The safety and well-being of our merchants, visitors and staff remain our top priority," said Wong.

"We are currently conducting a thorough review of all necessary precautionary measures to help prevent similar incidents in the future."

Wong added the mall's council is assessing the situation and looking into safety upgrades at Yaohan Centre to "ensure a secure environment."
