Most Richmond New readers prefer to maintain some of the COVID-19 restrictions.

A significant majority of Richmond News readers want all or at least some of the COVID-19 restrictions maintained, which puts them at odds with Canadians in general, according to a couple of recent polls.

A national Angus Reid survey found that the majority of Canadians surveyed would like to see all pandemic restrictions removed.

However, the Richmond News polled 1032 Richmond News readers and asked the question: Do you think it’s time to end all COVID-19 restrictions?

The poll ran from Feb. 2 to Feb. 8 and of the 948 votes, 205 were from within the community.

Yes, finally 20.66 % local, 30.72 % total
No, too early 35.21 % local, 31.59 % total
Some restrictions should be eased but not all 43.19 % local, 36.92 % total
Not sure 0.94 % local, 0.78 % total

It found that almost 80 per cent of local respondents think it’s either too early to lift restrictions or restrictions should be lifted gradually.

Only 20 per cent wanted all restrictions removed.

The Angus Reid survey found that 54 per cent of Canadians wanted all restrictions removed.

The Angus Reid national poll was conducted on Jan. 27 and 28 by the Angus Reid Institute.

Results are based on an online study of adult Richmond News readers that are located in Vancouver. The margin of error - which measures sample variability - is +/- 3.04%, 19 times out of 20.

Richmond News uses a variety of techniques to capture data, detect and prevent fraudulent votes, detect and prevent robots, and filter out non-local and duplicate votes.
