Open letter to parents and community members:
On behalf of the Richmond Board of Education, we’re thrilled to welcome back our staff and students for another exciting school year. We hope you had a relaxing and enjoyable summer.
As we return to our routines, we’d like to remind everyone to be extra mindful of traffic safety around our schools. With more students walking, biking and riding buses, it’s essential that we all do our part to keep school zones safe.
Please remember to:
• Slow down and follow posted speed limits in school zones.
• Stop for pedestrians and school buses—never pass a bus when its stop sign is extended.
• Stay alert: avoid distractions and be patient during busy drop-off and pick-up times.
• Respect bike lanes and watch for young cyclists.
• Watch for other student transportation—including skateboards, scooters and rollerblades.
If you’re dropping off or picking up your child, please observe all “No Stopping” and “No Parking” zones. Even brief stops can cause congestion and create unsafe conditions in these high-traffic areas.
Let’s make this school year memorable for all the right reasons—by looking out for one another and driving with care.
Welcome back, and best wishes for a safe and successful year!
