Richmond’s annual Culture Days celebration is back again this weekend and this year there are more than 70 free activities planned throughout the city. From today to Sunday, Sept.

Richmond’s annual Culture Days celebration is back again this weekend and this year there are more than 70 free activities planned throughout the city.

From today to Sunday, Sept. 30, visitors can check out the world of Richmond’s artists, creators and historians at 28 locations across the city. Events include:

Friday, Sept. 28 & Saturday, Sept. 29

10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Tune into a pop-up short wave radio station – For one weekend only, a unique do-it-yourself radio station will animate the Cultural Centre Plaza. Tune into 107.9 FM during the time to hear a live Culture Days broadcast and music selected by local youth.

12 – 3 p.m.

Script and mail a handwritten letter to a loved one with a pen, typewriter or vintage straight pen dipped in ink. Writing supplies, as well as free postage to anywhere in the world, will be provided.

1 – 3 p.m.

Join in the 2018 Branscombe House Artist-in-Residence activity that is part walking tour, part platonic date and part social experiment. Participants will be paired up and invited to navigate the neighbourhood in a one-of-a-kind curated journey. Registration is required at BranscombeHouseArt.Weebly.com.

Sunday, Sept. 30

10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Explore the world of drumming, rhythm song with your toddler – Join Talia McManus for a hands-on drop-in percussion workshop at Richmond Cultural Centre.

11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Drop by Sexsmith and Patterson Roads and meet some of the artists who live there and participate in wide variety of hands-on activities, such as painting, chalk drawing, dancing, music and more.

1:30 – 2:30 p.m.

Meet acclaimed author, Andrew Battershill on the Richmond Cultural Centre Rooftop Garden. Hear a reading of Andrew’s new work, chat about his career and learn about the free workshops, events and conversation opportunities that he will present during his two month writing residency in Richmond.
