Out and About: Perfect combination — Canada Day and Steveston Salmon Festival

The parade delighted onlookers in Steveston on July 1, 2025.

It was fantastic!

The biggest and best Canada Day Parade ever in Steveston.

The Canadian flag and the colour red were everywhere!

Things kicked off at 8 a.m. with a pancake breakfast in the parking lot of the Steveston Community Centre.

Then, enthusiastic crowds filled the streets of Steveston to watch the colourful children’s bicycle parade.

This led straight into the official Canada Day Parade, with floats, bands, marchers, dancers, other performing artists and non-stop entertainment.

The traffic coordinators did an excellent job of keeping everything moving in the proper order. Dozens of city workers, police and volunteers made everything else run smoothly.

The day was linked to the Salmon Festival — now in its 78th year. Steveston Village was filled with live stage events, a range of food booths, roving performers and a marketplace for keen-eyed shoppers.

The music performances ran from noon to 7 p.m. and featured Ten Souljers and Dr. Strangelove and the Aristo-Cats.

The open air street performers/events included bubble artist Ash Bubblez, jugglers, stilt walkers, a Japanese cultural show, facepainting, interactive games and button making, plus a youth zone with music and games.

Local artists displayed their work and programs and exhibits were featured at the Steveston Museum and Post Office, the Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site and the Gulf of Georgia Cannery.

All in all, this was a great way to celebrate Canada.
