Minoru Chapel’s Opera series is back this spring with three classical concerts performed by local professional companies. The series opens March 4 with Opera Mariposa making their Minoru Chapel debut with a costumed concert of operatic highlights, From Wolfgang to Wagner: Great Moments in Opera. The Richmond Public Library is hosting award-winning author, humanitarian and peace activist, Deborah Ellis, who will speak March 5 on the topic “Reading to Survive: Children, War and Books.” There will be a registered morning program at Ironwood Branch (11688 Steveston Hwy.) from 9:30-10:30 a.m. and an evening drop-in program at the Brighouse from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Best for families with children in Grade 4 or higher. The Richmond Dance Company presents Seven at the Richmond Cultural Centre (7700 Minoru Gate) March 6-8. It is an original dance performance exploring the roles the seven deadly sins can play in the quest for success. Members of the Richmond Youth Dance Company portray 23 dancers struggling against the pressures of their industry as they each fight for the spotlight.
