After a two-year absence, the popular Volunteers Are Stars Awards are making a comeback.

Organized by non-profit Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives (RCRG), the awards celebrate the city’s volunteer spirit and the thousands of individuals and groups who donate their time in support of community causes.

This year’s event will take place April 19 at the Pacific Gateway Hotel, during National Volunteer Week.

“The event has a long history in Richmond,” said Ed Gavsie, president and CEO of RCRG.

“The timing felt right to bring it back. Above all, it’s important that our community comes together to recognize the contributions of volunteers. This event has always been a wonderful opportunity to do that.”

A total of seven awards will be presented in four different categories. Nominations can be submitted online, at RCRG.org/vas, until March 28.

Tickets for the awards can be purchased through the same website for $25, or $20 for RCRG members.

“Our partnership with Pacific Gateway Hotel has allowed us to make the event more affordable, and thus more inclusive,” added Gavsie.

“It will still be every bit as meaningful as years past, but hopefully, with even more community members taking part.”
