1. OktoberfeSteveston: Saturday, Sept. 30:
The second, annual OktoberfeSteveston will take place 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (beer garden until 10 p.m.) on No. 1 Road (between Moncton and Bayview streets), with all things German being celebrated in a car-free zone. Included in the fun will be German beer, food, culture and Porsche cars. Live entertainment for adults and kids, as well as a beer garden and band (Thor, from 6 p.m.) at Steveston Seafood House. Six Steveston restaurants are also co-hosting the festival from 4 p.m. on Friday with guest craft breweries at each location.
2. Richmond Harvest Fest: Saturday, Sept. 30:
The summer has slipped into the 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.: Garden City Lands.
Richmond celebrates local food, sustainability and its agricultural past, present and future at the first, annual Richmond Harvest Fest. The free festival will be the first major event on the Garden City Lands. The festival’s highlights include a farmers market, local food, beer and wine, cooking demonstrations on a culinary stage, children’s activities, interactive agricultural displays and roving performers. The festival main stage will feature a headliner performance by popular Canadian folk/rock/reggae trio Jon and Roy. More information at RichmondHarvestFest.com.
3. RCCS TD Mid-Autumn Festival: Sunday, Oct. 1:
From 12:30 p.m. at Lansdowne Centre, the Richmond Chinese Community Society (RCCS) is hosting its annual Mid-Autumn Festival, featuring multicultural performances such as a lion dance, martial arts, Chinese opera, folk dances, as well as Chinese calligraphy and game booths. Several community organizations will also be hosting exhibition booths. The festival is Thanksgiving for Chinese people. The opening ceremony will be at 12:30 p.m., with performances lasting until around 4 p.m. There will be 500 free moon cakes (sponsored by Lansdowne Centre) and colourful lanterns (sponsored by TD) to take home.
