Tourism Richmond has awarded its first “Pacific. Authentic. Scholarship” to the Steveston Heritage Tour.

The Pacific. Authentic. Scholarship, launched by Tourism Richmond in January, focuses on mentorship, financing, investment and support for the city’s tourism industry.

The Steveston Heritage Tour - which offers a guided experience by costumed storytellers through four historical sites – partnered with the Gulf of Georgia Cannery, Britannia Shipyards, the Steveston Interurban Tram, the Steveston Museum and the Steveston Historical society.

The tour is the first recipient of the scholarship and received $20,000 in funding towards the development and marketing of its new tourism experience.

“I couldn’t be more excited to award our first scholarship to the Steveston Heritage Tour,” said Eda Koot, Tourism Richmond chair.

“This scholarship was created to invest in experience development and to help build new opportunities for our city,” Koot added.

The Steveston Heritage Tour will include visits to Britannia Shipyards, the Steveston Interurban Tram, the Steveston Museum and the Gulf of Georgia Cannery.

Along with the four historical attractions, there will be a culinary tasting at each site which will be designed to fit the theme of each attraction.

This tour will be launching in October and ticket sales begin in late August at $65 per person with a maximum of 35 people on each tour.
