An independent senior living community is gearing up to celebrate 20 years in Richmond.

On Saturday, June 1, Gilmore Gardens near Blundell and No. 1 roads will host an afternoon event, celebrating its involvement in the city with a Caribbean garden gala.

Since it opened in 1999, Gilmore Gardens says it has aimed to help seniors find purpose and vibrancy in the community while also striving to advocate for seniors and get involved with local organizations.

The June 1 event, scheduled to run from 1 to 4 p.m., will include games, prizes, a raffle, refreshments and live steel drum entertainment by Kenrick Headly.
