“My heart is broken losing these twinkling little lights.”

Once more, a little roundabout – adopted from the City of Richmond, beautified and maintained by the “Myron Court Gang” - has been vandalized and targeted by thieves.

“The sad thing is, (the lights) only cost $18,” said one of the “gang,” Lynda Pasacreta, who takes care of the traffic island, along with her cul-de-sac neighbours off Dayton Avenue, near Garden City and Blundell roads.

“In December, we decorated the little Siberian Ironwood tree with the purple twinkling solar lights. They were a showstopper.

“So many people came by to thank us for cheering up their lives and adding to the charm of the neighbourhood.

“A couple of days ago, someone stole the solar lights. They had to cut a huge branch of the spring-flowering tree to get the lights off. The branch was thrown on the ground.

“Someone had to go to a lot of trouble for something so cheap.”

Pasacreta said she and the gang will continue to put their “heart and soul into this little garden.

“We can’t understand the mentality of someone taking these treasures for all the neighbourhood to enjoy.

“It makes it hard to keep going with our traffic roundabout garden, but we will continue on.”

Over the years, the gang has planted drought-resistant, perennial flowers and shrubs and more than 200 spring bulbs.

As a result, they’ve received appreciative gifts from other neighbours of a “beautiful black metal heron and a concrete bird bath, quietly donated without any fanfare,” added Pasacreta.

“Last year, both of those beautiful pieces were stolen, much to the chagrin of the neighbourhood.

“If you see someone proudly displaying a new set of twinkling, purple solar lights, ask them where they got them from!”
