Pandemic or not, many Richmond kids still have one thing on their minds throughout the upcoming Halloween season — candy.
To bring a sense of normalcy to residents, Church on Five will host a free drive-through trick-or-treat event in which children will experience a haunted but fun journey from the safety of their vehicles.
Thirty cars will open up their trunks and decorate the back to hand out candies, and the church’s lead pastor, Chris Wilson, will stand on the roof of the church and dress up as King Kong, the enormous gorilla from the epic adventure movie.
“I take my kids every year for trick or treating. We think with COVID-19, there are a lot of restrictions and not a lot of opportunities for families to do something special. Thankfully the City of Richmond and Vancouver Coastal Health are working with us to put on something a little different this year,” added Wilson.
According to Dara Takenaka Fraser, children’s ministry director at Church of Five, church members have been working on the event preparation and decoration for two months to ensure guests have a fun and safe time.
“We will wear masks and gloves. The drive through is all right turns, so people won’t be able to stop or congregate. And they aren’t allowed to get out of their cars. But they can drive through the scene to collect candies,” said Fraser.
Save-on-Foods, London Drugs and FreshCo have donated candy for the event.
The event will be held on Oct. 31 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at 10200 No. 5 Rd.
