South Arm United Church Fair: Saturday, Sept. 16: 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.: South Arm United Church, Steveston Highway and No. 3 Road.

The Annual Country Fair is coming back to South Arm United Church for the 58th year! The church and its surrounding fields will again be open to the community of Richmond for some “old fashioned country fun.” On offer are the hayride across the fields, the Scooby Doo Bus (otherwise known as the Bouncy Bus) which also drives through the fields and a “cake walk.” Other activities include live entertainment, a children’s midway, farm produce, home-baking, strawberry tea, fresh flowers, plants, silent auction and garage sale.

Pirate Weekend at the Cannery: Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 16 and 17: Noon to 4 p.m. each day: Gulf of Georgia Cannery, Steveston.

Avast ye mateys! Richmond’s own Shady Isle Pirates invade the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site celebrate International Talk Like a Pirate Day. Come to the cannery and join the pirate fun, including games, dress-up, story time, and a pirate encampment, all inside the historic cannery. Wear your best pirate gear (or borrow theirs, if ye dare!), and have some swashbuckling fun. Admission is free to celebrate Canada’s 150th at all Parks Canada sites. Great Canadian Shoreline Clean-up: Saturday, Sept. 16: 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Iona Beach Regional Park.

More than 300 volunteers are expected to join the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup with YVR at Iona Beach Regional Park to celebrate International Coastal Cleanup Day. Shoreline litter is a critical issue and has devastating consequences for wildlife. The Shoreline Cleanup provides opportunities for Canadians to take meaningful action against litter and be a part of the lasting solution to improve and maintain the health of our lakes, rivers and oceans. A free shuttle bus is running from nearby Templeton Canada Line station. More information at ShoreLineCleanup.ca.

Terry Fox Run: Sunday, Sept. 17: 9: a.m registration (10 a.m. start): Garry Point Park.

Hundreds of people are expected to take to the West Dyke for the 1K, 2K or 10K, walk/run to help raise millions of dollars across Canada for the Terry Fox Research Institute (TFRI). The annual Terry Fox Run is a non-competitive, all-inclusive, family oriented activity where participants can run, walk, blade or bike. Refreshments are served at the end of the run. If you can’t take part in the actual event for physical reasons, you can still go along on the day and volunteer, as organizers are always looking for more help.
