Earth Day is coming up later this month and several events are scheduled throughout Richmond to engage community members and spread awareness about environmental protection.
Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on April 22 around the world, but events are being held through the week of April 22 to 28 in Richmond.
Monday, April 22
5:30 p.m. – Earth Day community movie
Join in for a free showing of "The Lorax" and try green activities led by City Centre's Youth Leadership at City Centre Community Centre. Activities start at 5:30pm, the movie starts at 6:30pm. This event is suitable for all ages.
Saturday, April 27
10 a.m. to 12 p.m. – Earth Day tree planting
Celebrate Earth Day in Richmond by planting a shrub or tree along Railway Greenway to help support the environment and raise awareness about green initiatives in Richmond. This event is suitable for anyone six years and older.
10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. – Hamilton neighbourhood cleanup
Join in a family friendly event with a neighbourhood cleanup that includes a free electric shredder, crafts and junk disposal by donation. Rock Art Canada will be participate with some rock painting. Even starts at the Hamilton Community Centre.
Sunday, April 28
1 to 3 p.m. – Earth Day celebration at Richmond Nature Park
Celebrate Earth Day by getting into nature and participating in family-friendly activities at the Richmond Nature Park. This event is co-hosted by the Vancouver Family Fun Club and is suitable for all ages. Admission is by donation and disability access will be available
As well, Richmond students will gather at Steveston-London secondary this month for the eight annual Richmond Earth Day Youth, or REaDY, Summit is a youth-led conference presented in collaboration by the City of Richmond, the Richmond School District and the David Suzuki Foundation. This year’s theme for the REaDY Summit is #YESEarth: Youth Empowerment for a Sustainable Earth, which aims to show the younger generation on how to create a greener world.
