The sunny weather marked a nice start to this year’s Bike to Work week, when long-time bike commuters celebrate and new bikers join in.

Richmondites were invited to ride their bikes to work this week and log their biking trips on the website to win a cycling tour in Tuscany.

Two celebration stations were set up on Tuesday, on bike routes near the Canada Line Bridge and the Richmond Public Library, providing cyclists with free coffee, snacks and bike repairs.

Bikers also have the chance to win prizes including a branded bike, pannier and lock.

“We hope to encourage more people to commute by bikes and raise awareness of bike safety in fall and winter,” said Emma Cunnington, program manager.

“We’d also like to send the message that it’s (good) to bike all year round, you just need to wear the right clothing, like waterproof jackets and shoes in winter.”

The organizations that log the most bike trips will be honoured at the HUB Bike Awards in February, 2018.
