The Richmond Laughter Club (RLC) is inviting the community to join their weekly laughter session in celebration of their 10th year anniversary on Tuesday.

RLC will be holding the session at 6:30 p.m. on July 28 through Zoom with various local laughter yoga leaders expected to join.

Laughter yoga is a series of movement and exercises that stimulate laughter and “cultivates” an inner spirit of joy, according to RLC.

“RLC has been blessed with many local leaders who join us to share their laughter,” said RLC in a media statement.

The club was originally founded by Shelley Nessman in 2010 after discovering and enjoying the health benefits of regular laughter yoga.

And when Nessman became busy with her work schedule, she passed the torch to Tamar Cohen who took over the club in 2016.

Every August, the club takes the month off, however the arrival of COVID-19 has shifted their annual tradition.

Since the pandemic-19 hit, it has been hosting weekly virtual laughter sessions, which are lead by Cohen and Marja Pirie – co-leader of the White Rock Laughter Club.

Other events that RLC has hosted include workshops for laughter professionals, online World Laughter Day and Canada-Haha Day.

Pre-registration is required to join the Zoom event.
