Richmond FC is teaming up with the Richmond Food Bank this summer to help families in the city who’re struggling to put food on the table.

The club (RFC) has been working regularly with the food bank all year, with various drives and donation events.

And, every Monday at Hugh Boyd Park, starting Aug. 10, from 2.30 to 5.30 p.m., RFC and the food bank will be handing out food to families and individuals in need of assistance, all the way through to October.

“We want to do as much as we can for the Richmond Food Bank and the citizens of Richmond,” said RFC’s executive director Marius Roevde.

“Our members are from Richmond and there is so much to learn for the young athletes about empathy and giving someone a hand at a difficult stage in life.

“We are exposed to good and bad things in our life; empathy is so important to us as a club.”

Roevde said RFC will have volunteers together with the food bank, as well as the club’s board members and staff, taking shifts to help out.

“Parents of our players and the older players will also help,” added Roevde.

“We are all in it together at RFC and I feel we are aligned with Richmond Food Bank’s mindset.”
