The Richmond Women’s Resource Centre is gearing up to host its annual fundraiser this Saturday in celebration of International Women’s Day.

This annual event raises funds and awareness for RWRC. First established in 1976, the centre and its volunteers have helped over 7400 women, offering resources such as support groups, workshops, agency referrals and volunteering opportunities.

The theme for this year’s event, which will take place at Continental Seafood Restaurant, is “Balance for Better.”

The organization believes its "purpose is to empower women while contributing to the establishment of a gender-balanced society."

While RWRC’s event takes place on Saturday, it commemorates International Women’s Day which is on Friday, March 8 and acts as a focal point in the global women’s rights movement.

“Balance is not a women's issue, it's a business issue. The race is on for the gender-balanced boardroom, a gender-balanced government, gender-balanced media coverage, a gender-balance of employees, more gender-balance in wealth, gender-balanced sports coverage,” says the International Women’s Day team about this year’s theme.

“Gender balance is essential for economies and communities to thrive.”

RWRC’s fundraiser runs from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and includes breakfast and a silent auction.

In addition, Clavinova Nights, a group of young Metro Vancouver musicians, will provide live entertainment, playing jazz and upbeat dance music.

Tickets are $50 and are available at https://richmondwomenscentre.bc.ca
