Richmond teams in Provincial Cup title hunt this weekend

Richmond United takes aim at rare treble in boys U18A action in Surrey while Richmond F.C. looks to added to U16 girls Coastal Cup title

A trio of Richmond youth soccer teams will conclude outstanding seasons this weekend at their respective Provincial Cup Championships.
At Newton Athletic Park in Surrey, U18 Richmond United and U16 Richmond F.C. will be the favourites at the Provincial “A” Cup Championships.
On the boys side, United will be looking to cap off a remarkable campaign in style by achieving the rare treble, having already captured Metro League regular season honours and the Coastal Cup. Richmond has not lost a game all season, including a 1-0 triumph over the Burnaby Selects in the Coastal final back in early May.
The rivals will renew acquaintances to kick off the tournament at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday. Richmond will also take on Island champion Bays/Peninsula/Juan De Fuca on Friday (3 p.m.) and Prince George on Saturday (3 p.m.).
Meanwhile, Richmond F.C. will be looking to continue its impressive post-season run. The girls earned Coastal Cup honours with a 3-2 win over the Upper Vancouver Island Tide in penalty kicks.
Richmond F.C. opens play against Coquitlam Metro Ford Thursday (10:30 a.m.), take on Delta Coastal Selects Friday (11 a.m.) then have a rematch with Upper Island on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Gold and bronze medal games will take place on Sunday.
In South Surrey, the Richmond Galaxy will be looking to finish their season on the podium, competing in the U13 girls division at the Provincial “B” Cup Championships.
The Galaxy nearly earned Coastal Cup honours, falling in penalty kicks to Island champions Bays United.
Their division features eight teams battling for medals. The Galaxy’s pool includes Kelowna United, Williams Lake and Surrey United.
The first place finishers from each group will play for gold on Sunday, while the runner-ups will battle for bronze.
