A Richmond boys team won gold in this year's U13 ball hockey provincial championships.
Richmond Thunder, a 15-player boys ball hockey team, competed in the 2025 BC Minor Ball Hockey Provincials for the U13 division from June 14 to 28.
The boys were undefeated all year long, leading up to the provincial championships, with one loss against Ridge Meadows.
The team bounced back and went up against the Valley in the finals.
Richmond started with a 2-0 lead in the second period with goals by Lucas Phu and Austin Lee.
During the third period, the Valley tied the game 2-2 with a power play during the last five and a half minutes, leading to overtime.
Richmond Thunder's Travis Epp and Robin Yu got the ball down the rink, and then Zachary Karim scored the winning goal with 15 seconds left and claiming the championship title with a 3-2 score.
"Our team had such a good story and faced so much adversity," said head coach Tyler Epp.
"Nothing came easy for these kids, but they never gave up."
