Richmond RCMP in partnership with ICBC will be hosting a 3-on-3 Youth Basketball Tournament on Sunday, June 16.

Registration is now underway for this free event that will take place at the India Cultural Centre — 8600 No. 5 Road. It is open to all boys and girls in Grades 8-11.

This tournament is based on the annual Team izzat 3-on-3 event that has been running since 2004. The Team Izzat is a group of police officers and college students who volunteer on their time off to connect with youth through sports and educational programs.

Team izzat 3-on-3 is very well established with approximately 80-100 youth participating each year. Izzat means honour and respect in Punjabi and Hindi. Team izzat was created by S/Sgt Jet SUNNER while working with Richmond RCMP in 2004.

The inaugural Richmond RCMP/ICBC tournament will feature three divisions — Boys Grades 10-11, Boys Grades 8-9 and Girls Grades 8-10. Co-ed teams are permitted but must compete in a boys division.

Teams can range from three to five players and teams need to be registered by June 5. Register by sending an email to jet.sunner@rcmp-grc.gc.ca. Please include all players names, phone numbers and division your team wishes to play in, as well as your team name. Every player gets a free t-shirt and pizza. Winning teams also receiver medals.
