MacNeill Ravens basketball program will host seven games in total on Monday as part of its sixth annual Stronger Than Cancer day — a fundraiser for B.C. Cancer Foundation.

It’s an action-packed home opener line-up as the MacNeill Ravens host their sixth annual Stronger Than Cancer night on Monday.

Seven Ravens teams will be playing in both of the school’s gyms, starting at 3 p.m. The schedule will conclude with the senior boys game at 7:30 p.m. The Hugh Boyd Trojans will provide the opposition in all but one of the contests.

“We started this after one of our staff members lost their dad to cancer and I lost my wife to cancer as well,” explained Steward Siy, head coach of the Ravens senior boys team. “B.C. Cancer Foundation has been really good to us and we wanted to make sure we were giving back. It teaches the kids to give back as well and everyone gets behind it.”

Since its inception, thousands of dollars has been raised for the B.C. Cancer Foundation. Admission is by donation and a full concession will be available.

The 2019 edition of the Stronger Than Cancer shirts will also be for sale — $15 for t-shirts and $25 for crew necks.

MacNeill’s senior boys team is coming off its best season in school history, capped by a fourth place finish at the BC AAA Championships last March. The Ravens are ranked third in the provincial pre-season rankings. The Trojans also had an excellent 2018-19 campaign and are an honourable mention among B.C.’s top AA teams.

The full Stronger Than Cancer line-up includes:

3 p.m. Grade 9 girls (big gym); Grade 8 girls (small gym).

4:30 p.m. Junior Boys (big gym), Grade 8 boys (small gym).

6 p.m. Senior Girls (big gym), Grade 9 boys (small gym).

7:30 p.m. Senior Boys (big gym).
