MacNeill hosting inaugural city all-star games

Girls tilt tips-off at 1 p.m. on Saturday followed by boys battle at 2:45 p.m.

City MVPs Usman Tung (MacNeill) and Liz Kennedy (McMath) will be among the participants in Saturday's inaugural Richmond All-Star Game at MacNeill Secondary. The girls game tips off at 1 p.m. and the boys follow at 2:45 p.m.

The city’s top high school basketball talent will be showcased on Saturday at MacNeill Secondary in the inaugural Richmond All-Star Game.

The doubleheader will feature the girls’ game at 1 p.m. and the boys tipping off at 2:45 p.m. Admission is $3 for students and $5 for adults.

Player selection was based on voting for Richmond All-Star Teams that were recognized back in February, based on regular season play.

McMath coaches Chris Kennedy and Anne Gillrie-Carre will guide one of the girls all-star teams that will include: Liz Kennedy (McMath), Marina Radocaj (McMath), Jayna Wilson (McMath), Kate Carkner (McMath), Michel Doria (MacNeill), Christina McDonald (McNair), Laurel Vint (McNair), Ikaria John (McNair), Aaliyah Egharevba (Cambie) and Mary Win (Palmer).

The other girls all-star team features Kara Moscovitz (Hugh Boyd), Megan Estrada (Hugh Boyd), Sharlene Siy (Steveson-London), Mina Chong (Steveston-London), Shir Dayan (Steveston-London), Dana Sander (Steveston-London), Davian Tsang (Burnett), Sandra Balitaan (Richmond High), Clara Hoh (Richmond Christian), Veronica Lin (McRoberts).

The boys games will feature the East team guided by Richmond High’s Tristan Ordonez while Hugh Boyd’s Norm Shultz is in charge of the West team. The rosters include:

Team East: Jackie Nguyen (Cambie), Baltej Nahal (Cambie), Jackson Thackwray (MacNeill), Sky Tan (MacNeill), Usman Tung (MacNeil)l Talhah Farooqi (Richmond High), Ace Adano (Richmond High), Evan Brusse (Richmond High), Anton Poburko (Richmond High), Jordan Yan (Richmond Christian).

Team West: Alex Hsiao (Burnett), Nick Berda (Hugh Boyd), Travis Hamberger (McMath), Jonathan Downton (McMath), Joven Sidhu (McRoberts), Apaar Sahota (McNair), Eligio Menta (Palmer), Ethan Wight (Steveston-London), Marco Wong (Steveston-London), Umer Shahzad (Steveston-London).

There will also be a 3-Point Shootout that will begin with preliminary rounds at 10 a.m. on Saturday and is open to all Richmond players in Grades 8-12 who played this past season. The entry cost is $5 which also includes admission into the all-star games. The top four shooters will advance to the finals that will take place at halftime of the boys all-star game.
