The Richmond Roadrunners will be looking to continue their momentum at the Langley Events Centre tonight after taking three of four points from the Nanaimo Timbermen on the weekend.

The Roadrunners improved to 3-2-1 in the B.C. Junior “B” Tier 1 Lacrosse League with an 8-5 victory over the Timbermen on Sunday at Minoru Arenas.

Finnish import goalie Riku Jokela was terrific in net, making 34 saves that included a stretch where he held Nanaimo scoreless for the better part of two periods. That allowed Richmond to take control with four unanswered goals, including a pair from captain Josh Bourne.

Jordan Roberts paced the attack with five goals and one assist. He scored the opening four goals of the contest then added to his big afternoon midway through the final period. Ryan Jensen had the other Richmond goal in his season debut and also chipped in with a couple of helpers.

The result came 24 hours after the teams battled to a 9-9 tie in Nanaimo. The game was deadlocked at 7-7 after 60 minutes and the teams exchanged goals during the 10-minute non-sudden death overtime period.

Bourne finished with six points, including a pair of goals. Thomas Dickinson, Tyler Moxin and Midget call-up Finn Halladay also scored twice. Jaden Bourne chipped in with a goal and two assists. Jokela made 51 saves.

Roberts wasn’t available after being called up by the Delta Junior “A” Islanders where he scored once in a 7-6 loss to Port Coquitlam on Saturday night.

The Roadrunners face the Langley Thunder (1-2-0) tonight then travel to Ladner May 22 to take on the Delta Islanders.
