It will be a celebration of the rich basketball history at Richmond High Saturday for the Colts Alumni Tournament.

The event returned in 2017 after a 12-year hiatus with the objective to create a sense of community between the graduates that had the privilege to wear the renowned maroon and silver colours.

For all the championships won by the school, the program’s ultimate success is measured in the number of students who have had the opportunity to participate in Colts athletics and how it helped create a positive and lasting sense of belonging and school pride.

All proceeds go towards helping lessen the cost for hundreds of students currently representing the school in athletics.

“It should be another incredible day of b-ball  while supporting Richmond Secondary Student Athletics,” said tournament organizer Jared Hulme. “We’re excited to have the Colts past and the present come together for a day of hoops and fun while raising money for Richmond Secondary Student Athletics.”

The tournament will feature six teams representing the past 18 years — 1999-2002, 2003-2006, 2007-2009, 2010-12, 2013-2015 and 2016-2018.

In addition, standout players from the previous three decades will be disbursed among the teams including: Brian Host, Rick Pridmore, Phil Ens, Ron Putzi, Damon Robb, Trevor Kojima, Jason Birring and Russel Neal.

Putzi was inducted into the Basketball B.C. and Richmond Sports Wall of Fames this year.

The action gets underway at 11 a.m. and concludes with the final at 4:30 p.m. There will also be a three-point contest at 4 p.m. Colts apparel will also be on sale.
