Richmond College Prep Chuckers thrived on home turf to capture Richmond City Baseball's inaugural Canada Day Tournament, defeating Cloverdale 4-0 in the championship game.

The Richmond College Prep Chuckers certainly made the most of their inaugural Canada Day Tournament.

The event featured a mixture of teams from B.C. Minor Baseball’s College Prep and 18U AAA Divisions at Minoru Park’s Latrace Field.

It was eventful first game with two players and a coach from the opposing team being ejected, but things settled down quickly and it turned out to be a successful weekend overall.

The Chuckers AAA team ended the round robin play at 1-2-1, while their College Prep counterparts finished with a 2-1-1 record.

With help from a Chuckers AAA’s 2-2 tie and a VI Mariners’ 6-1 win over the North Shore Padres, Chuckers College Prep avoided a tiebreaker situation (and a lot of math) to advance to the final against the unbeaten Cloverdale Nationals (4-0-0).

Led by an outstanding complete game performance on the mound from senior Duke Howells, the Chuckers secured the title with a 3-0 win. Howells allowed just three hits and one walk over seven innings.

Jenmark Ramos led the attack with a pair of hits and drove in two runs. Nathan Hikida had two hits and added the other RBI. Tyler Sharples also chipped in with a hit.
