A massive amount of illegal drugs, police believe were destined for Chilliwack, have been seized during a search warrant in Vancouver as part of a larger drug trafficking investigation.
The Chilliwack RCMP crime reduction unit drug section worked closely with the Vancouver Police Department organized crime unit to target an alleged multi-jurisdictional drug trafficking organization during September.
Both teams executed a search warrant in the 5600-block of Boundary Road on Sept. 10, which resulted in the seizure of 10 kilograms of methamphetamine and 700 grams of fentanyl, as well as drug cutting agents, processing materials, cellular phones, and cash.
Police later released two people that were arrested during the search.
Vancouver police Sgt. Aaron Roed said the seizure would have a significant impact on the health and safety of the local community.
Similarly, Cpl. Mike Rail with the RCMP Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment said it was a good result for Chilliwack.
“A large quantity of illegal drugs were seized before having an opportunity to reach the streets of our community,” he said.
Following a thorough review of evidence, a report by the RCMP will be sent to the Public Prosecution Service of Canada for their assessment of charges.
