Major bus routes including four high-frequency busses in Richmond are affected by the on-going transit strike on Friday.
On Friday morning, a statement released by Translink communications said a union job action resulted in a reduction of frequency on 25 bus routes during the morning rush.
Richmond transit users on the following bus routes were impacted:
- 403 – Between Riverport Recreation Complex and Bridgeport Station
- 410 – Between 22nd Station and Brighouse Station
- 430 – Between Metrotown and Brighouse Station
- 601 – Betweem South Delta and Bridgeport Station
Other high-frequency routes in Metro Vancouver that are impacted include:3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 20, 25, 32, 33, 41, 43, 84, 152, 156, 183, 188, 189 and 555.
“Coast Mountain Bus Company is making every effort to ensure reliable service, but the union’s job action will continue to have impacts on the system,” said the statement.
“The union has been asked to return to bargaining and take part in mediation, but they have repeatedly refused.”
Unifor locals 111 and 2200 – which represent over 5,000 transit workers – called off talks with the employer when no significant changes were made, resulting in a strike that started on Nov. 1.
The union represents drivers, Seabus operators and maintenance workers, who have been working without a contract since March 31.
No talks are currently scheduled between Unifor and employer Coast Mountain Bus Company.
