A busy 2016 competitive Wushu season is off to an outstanding start for Bianca Go.
The Richmond teen, who represented Canada at last year’s World Championships in Indonesia and placed for fifth, is two-for-two so far in 2016.
Go reconfirmed her status as one of the country’s best in the modern exhibition of traditional martial arts by being crowned Grand Champion at the B.C. Open Martial Arts Championships back in March.
The Grade 11 Steveston-London Secondary School student then duplicated the accomplishment by taking home the top prize at last weekend’s 37th annual Can Am Martial Arts Championships at the Richmond Olympic Oval.
The three-day event attracted athletes from around the world to compete in a wide range of martial arts disciplines including: Hapkido Forms and Fighting, Health Qigong, Hae Dong Kumdo, Mulan Quan, Point Fighitng, Sanshou Fighting, Sport Karate Kata, Sport Continuous Sparring, Tai Chi (Taiji), Traditional Karate Kata, Taekwondo Forms and Fighting Traditional Kung Fu, Wushu, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Sport Amateur Pankation (Sport MMA) and Sport Amateur Muay Thai.
The event was held in conjunction with the fifth annual Canada International Martial Arts Festival.
Go will continue training in preparation for the National Team Junior Trials in Toronto in late July. Two weeks later, she is off to Texas to compete for Canada at the Pan American Championships. She will also be in Seattle on Aug. 15.
