Jordan Sandhu has parlayed an impressive rookie season in the B.C. Hockey League into a scholarship opportunity south of the border.
The Seafair Minor Hockey product has committed to Arizona State University. The Sun Devils will begin their first-full season at the NCAA Division One level next fall.
Sandhu led all 1999-born players in scoring in the BCHL with the Alberni Valley Bulldogs — recording 40 points (5G, 35A) in 44 games. The next closest ’99 born point producer was Merritt Centennials’ Tyler Ward with 27 in 52 games.
Sandhu will be one of Alberni’s key returning players next season.
“I decided to play at Arizona State because it is an up-and-coming program that is progressing at a fast pace and on the road to a successful future. The staff is very passionate about their hockey program and I look forward to being a part of that,” said Sandhu.
“I would like to thank my coaches for giving me the opportunity to play in such a great organization, my teammates, and fans for making my first year one to remember. I really look forward to what we will do next season in the Alberni Valley.”
Sandhu enjoyed an impressive run through Seafair’s rep program and was selected by Kelowna in the 2014 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft. However, opted to remain eligible for scholarship opportunities. He played one season with the Greater Vancouver Canadians of the B.C. Major Midget Hockey League before making the jump to the BCHL.
