Richmond was well-represented at B.C. Hockey’s 2017 Male U15 Provincial Cup in Penticton.
The four-day event featured 160 of the top players in the province divided into eight teams for a jamboree-style format. The participants were also put through Western Hockey League Combine Testing to assist them with their skill development and identify key areas for improvement.
Local players participating included Seafair Minor Hockey’s Jacob Bonkowski (Team B.C. Maroon), Jaden Uy (Team B.C. Maroon), Josh Wessell (Team B.C. Maroon), Ethan Riesterer (Team B.C. Blue), Dominic Main (Team B.C. Green), Michael Abgrall (Team B.C. Green), Ty Sedivy (Team B.C. Orange), along with Richmond Minor’s Austin Kofler (Team B.C. Green) and Ryan Bal (Team B.C. Grey).
The final saw Team White double Team Maroon 6-3 in a battle of unbeaten teams.
Icing…
This weekend, seven Richmond players will be in Shawnigan Lake for B.C. Hockey’s U18 Female Invitational Camp.
The local contingent includes blueliner Kate Reilly, who made the B.C. U18 team a year ago and played for Shattuck St. Mary’s Hockey Academy in Minnesota this past season.
She will be joined by Hannah Green (defenceman), Katie Chan (forward), Jenna Ehling (goaltender), Jennifer Andrash (forward), Karina Lannard (forward), Nicole Soong (forward) and Janey Wilson (forward).
Chan is the lone 2003-born player invited to the camp that will feature over 100 prospects divided into six teams. She is coming off an outstanding season with the Richmond Ravens Bantam “A” team and also managed three goals and four points in a pair of call-up games with the Fraser Valley Rush of the B.C. Midget AAA Female Hockey League.
The top players from this weekend will be invited back to Shawnigan Lake for the week-long provincial camp in July.
