A trio of Richmond Ravens alumni are off to Alberta this weekend after helping the Greater Vancouver Comets capture the B.C. Hockey Female Midget “AAA” Championship.
The Comets continued their dominant season with a two-game sweep of defending champion Northern Capitals last weekend. They will now represent B.C. in the Pacific Midget Female Regionals. The best-of-three series starts Friday in St. Albert. The winner will advance to the 2017 Esso Cup — April 23-29 in Morden, Man.
The Greater Vancouver roster includes McMath student Hannah Green, along with Naomi Choong and Nicole Wong, who both attend McNair Secondary. They moved onto the Comets program after playing for the Ravens’ top Bantam team, under coach Tony Lindsay.
Two of them helped Richmond win the Bantam provincial title in 2015.
Greater Vancouver produced a 29-1 record in regular season play then swept a pair of games from the Kootenay Wild to advance to the championship series.
Choong had four points in game one, including a pair of goals as the Comets rolled to a 9-1 victory.
The sweep was then completed with a 5-1 triumph.
B.C. Hockey’s Midget Female AAA program consists of six zone-based teams that are spread across the province.
