Several Richmond skaters and coaches were honoured at this year's annual Skate Canada B.C. Section awards ceremony.
The 2023 B.C. and Yukon Section awards celebrate the best volunteers, coaches, officials and athletes during the skating season.
Skaters Wesley Chiu and William Chan were awarded the Competitive Skater of the Year and the Youth Promise awards, respectively, at the ceremony.
This is Chiu's second year in a row receiving his award, according to Keegan Murphy, director and coach at Connaught Skating Club.
He added that Chan's silver medal win at an international competition helped the athlete secure his award.
Murphy and fellow coach Eileen Murphy both received the Competitive Coaches of the Year award as well.
Keegan said this is a "very rare" moment for two coaches to be named for the award at one time.
