The Richmond Rugby Club was wellrepresented at last weekend's B.C. Regional Championships.

A whopping 14 members of RRC's Lower Mainland U16 championship team were selected to play.

Brett Robertson, Mark Henrickson, Anton Metalnikov, Troy Murray, Nolan Howell, Matias McDonald, Spencer Walker, Harjun Gill, Terry Lok, Danny Chang and Tomas Vataiki were members of the Vancouver West U16 team.

Dustin Sidhu, Bradley Kemp and Nick Wu, along with McRoberts rugby program member Lance Wu, played for the Vancouver East U16 team.

Vancouver West went on to finish fifth overall while Vancouver East was ninth.

Richmond's U16 team enjoyed an unbeaten spring season, culminating with a 22-5 win over perennial powerhouse Capilanos in the championship game.

The number of players selected to the regional squads is a testament to the strength of this outstanding group. The regional championships, which took place at UBC, are used in the selection process for the provincial teams that will be competing at next month's National Festival in Calgary - Aug. 15-21.

Meanwhile, Gill and Vataiki will also be playing for Team B.C. at the inaugural rugby sevens competition at the Western Canada Summer Games in Kamloops - Aug. 5-14.

Notes ....

. Former McRoberts standout Kapi Vataiki, who now attends the University of Victoria, scored a try to help the Vancouver Island Rising Tide defeat Vancouver Wave 46-24 in the season-opening game of the Dunbar Keg U20 League.
