It was an impressive showing for Richmond Gymnastics at the recent BC Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) Junior Olympic Compulsory Championships held at the Langley Events Centre.

The Richmond Gymnastics Association came away with a number of medals from the inaugural BC Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) Junior Olympic Compulsory Championships at the Langley Events Centre.

The two-day meet attracted over 450 young athletes — ranging from five-to-12-years-old — who train in the Junior Olympic (JO) Level 1-5 categories.

Leading the RGA contingent was Maya Messenberg who was crowned all-around champion in JO 1 thanks to a 36.959 total. Her individual scores included: vault ( 9.475), bars (9.225), beam (9.275) and floor (8.975).

Phoenix Lopez captured the silver all-around in JO 2 with a 37.330 total. She also added a gold on the floor with a 9.475 score.

Also competing in this category was Kensie Riddell. She earned silver on the beam (9.200) and was fifth all-around (36.425).

In JO 3, Calla Reyad was also second all-around (36.050) and captured gold in the floor (9.225) and vault (9.550) events.

Rounding out the medal winners was Talia Bahar earning silver in the JO 3 floor event (9.100). She was also fourth all-around (34.750).

Also turning in strong performances for the club were Channi Cheema (JO 2), Raveena Dhillon (JO 2), Angelina Wang (JO 3), Jade Stewart (JO 3), Meher Bains (JO 4) and Eden Messenberg (JO 4).

The Richmond Gymnastics Association offers a wide variety of competitive and recreational programs at their facility — located at 140-7400 River Road. The 51-year-old club moved to their new home, across from the UBC Boathouse, back in 2016 after being based out of the former Sportstown venue.
