The awards continue to pour in for golfer Chris Crisologo.
Just a few days after being recognized as Post Secondary Male Athlete of the Year at the Richmond Sports Council’s 18th annual Richmond Sports Awards, the Simon Fraser University junior was named Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year and to the All-Conference First Team.
Crisologo put together his most dominant season to date for his second consecutive GNAC Player of the Year award, finishing in the top 10 at seven of nine tournaments. He also placed in the top three among GNAC athletes at all but one event this year, before wrapping up the season with titles at the NNU Invitational and last week’s GNAC Championships in Idaho.
Crisologo leads the conference with a 71.2 strokes per round average and has carded scores under par in 16 of 25 rounds. At the GNAC Championships, he shot a 5-under-par 208 to capture his first conference title with an even-par 71 in the final round to win by two shots.
Crisologo will compete in the NCAA Division II West/South Central Super Regional, which will be held this year in California on May 8-10 at the Brookside Golf Course in Stockton. The tournament features 20 teams and eight individuals with 10 teams from the West Region and 10 from the South Central Region.
Last year, Crisologo finished tied for 17th place at the Super Regional, which was held in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
At a minimum, the top three teams and the top two student-athletes not with a team from each regional (regardless of region) will advance to the finals May 22-26, at Reunion Resort in Kissimmee, Florida.
Crisologo’s SFU teammate Kevin Vigna of Coquitlam was named to the 2016-17 GNAC Men’s Golf All-Conference Second Team.
