Richmond Islanders welcomed the Austrian national team to London Park Wednesday night for a friendly doubleheader.
The Austrians are among 31 countries that will be competing at the WBSC Women’s World Softball Championships at Softball City, starting Friday. The tournament continues until July 24.
The Islanders senior women teams provided a pair of competitive games. Larry Strohan's squad dropped a 4-0 decision while Al Groff' s team lost 6-3. Richmond is fresh off hosting both the Provincial Senior “A” and “B” Championships this past weekend.
Austria is in a pool group that includes the United States, Israel and Brazil. They are scheduled to open play on Friday morning.
