2006 girls softball team turns in best finish by a Richmond entry in five years

Richmond 2006 Junior Islanders was silver medalists in the "B" Division at the 23rd annual Squint Lake Tournament.

Richmond 2006 Junior Islanders captured the silver medal in the “B” Division at the recent 23rd annual U10 Squint Lake Tournament in Burnaby.
With a 3-1 round-robin record, the Islanders entered the playoffs as the 10th seed. The girls started their championship schedule bright and early at 8 a.m. and had to win two games to advance to the title tilt.
Richmond came up just short against the Cloverdale Fury in the final but it was the best finish by an Islanders team at the tournament in five years.
Led by the incredible pitching of Bella DeShaye and overall play of Ulani Cyr, Laurel Forgeron and Madelyn Wong, it was an amazing team effort. Richmond also received terrific efforts from Makaela Parker, Stephanie Sofikitis, Rebecca Wosk, Kyomi Tien, Takara Orange, Ashley Mercer, Vanessa Chan and Aika Wang.
The team was coached by Anne Tien, Johnny Wong, Dereck Griffin and Noel Mercer.
