Richmond resident Kara Kalin has played a role in Canada’s road to the summer Olympics, working with the country’s only synchronized swimming medal contenders competing in Rio this August.
Kalin, Synchro BC’s technical director and head coach of Richmond-based Pacific Wave Synchronized Swimming Club, was invited to share her clinical counseling knowledge with the junior team in Montreal in June and to observe the Olympic duet of Jacqueline Simoneau and Karine Thomas, who are headed for Rio.
Kalin is not new to coaching Canada’s top national synchronized swimming athletes, having been the apprentice coach with the Junior Worlds Team in 2010, assistant coach for AG13-15 Comen Cup in 2011 and 2012, as well as the apprentice coach with the Senior B Team in 2013.
“I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to work with the Olympic duet,” she said.
“From a coaching perspective, I have enjoyed working with their coach, Meng Chen, and feel excited to be a part of the final preparation before Rio. Karine and Jacqueline have been working extremely hard and truly improve each and every day. I am excited for Canada’s duet to wow the world!”
