The Richmond Curling Club lost one of its finest ambassadors last month in the passing of Robert (Bobby) Barquest. He was 83.
For more than 50 years he was a tireless volunteer and an active member of the RCC — serving on the club executive. He also took his passion beyond Richmond as president of the Pacific Curling Association. Barquest also was a valuable contributor to the RCC-hosted Pacific International Cup for 17 years.
His loyalty and passion for the sport was reflected in him attending a remarkable 35 consecutive Briers — the Canadian Men’s Curling Championships.
Barquest was also known for his extensive collection of curling pins that included at least one from every club over the sport’s rich history in this province. The pins are now in display at the RCC.
