Summer Clarke has wasted little time in making an impact for Canada at the international level.

The 16-year-old striker from Richmond scored Canada's only goal in a 1-1 draw with Japan in a U17 friendly played on Monday in Carson, California. It was only Clarke's second game with the national team program after earning a invite thanks to her strong play this summer for Team B.C.

Clarke, who was named Canada's player of the match, converted a rebound in the 26th minute. Japan equalized in the 61st minute.

"It was a strong start for us in that we were very well organised, we stuck to our game plan and we created some good opportunities," said Canadian head coach Bryan Rosenfeld.

Clarke also plays for the provincial U16 champion Richmond Red Hot Selects who are headed to Calgary in early October for the National Club Championships.
